Where styled text works on TikTok

The nickname — the name shown above your bio — accepts styled Unicode, as do the bio, video captions and comments. The @username does not: like most platforms, TikTok limits it to letters, numbers, underscores and periods.

The bio is short, around 80 characters, so it is the field where styled letters counting double hurts most. Tiny text and small caps are efficient choices; fullwidth is the most expensive because each character is wide on screen as well.

Captions: style the hook, not the hashtags

A styled first few words can make a caption stand out in a feed of identical typography. Hashtags are different — they must be plain text to be recognised as hashtags at all. Write the hook styled, then the hashtags plain, and you get the visual difference without losing discoverability.

Captions sit over video for a moment on a small screen, so favour high-contrast styles. Bold and small caps stay legible; heavily stacked glitch text does not.

The aesthetic look people actually search for

Two families dominate TikTok profiles: fullwidth text with its wide spacing, and small mini letters used for a subtitle line.
